Frequently Used Terms

Graves Disease – Just the official diagnostic name for auto immune Hyperthyroidism.

Hashimoto’s – Just the official diagnostic name for auto immune Hypothyroidism.

Nodules – Small lump, sometimes filled with fluid, similar to a tumor.  (Can be cancerous or benign)

Hot Nodule – A nodule that produces excess thyroid hormone and does not obey signals from the pituitary gland.

Parathyroid – An even smaller gland behind the thyroid that regulates the amount of calcium in the blood & bones.

TSH – Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (This hormone is produced in the pituitary gland)

T3 –  Triiodothyrinone (This hormone is produced by the thyroid gland)

T4 – Tetraiodothyrinone (This hormone is produced by the thyroid gland)
